Instagram has added offline support for its Android app meaning users can create posts even when there is no internet connection.

Users can view, comment on and save posts already downloaded to their phones and when they go back online these actions will be updated automatically.

Insiders believe this functionality will particularly help Instagram spread in developing countries where internet connection is unreliable.

The way this works is when you're offline, you can still view the preloaded content and several of the app's sections (feed, explore, personal profile, previously visited profiles, etc) and you can interact with them. Liking, commenting, saving, following, and unfollowing, all of these can be done while offline then scheduled to apply when you're back online.

Facebook says it’s making Instagram more usable offline in order to improve the experience for users in countries where there’s either unreliable service or limited access to consistent internet connections. That could be a big driver as the app continues its rapid growth in places outside the United States.

The company also announced that it's now supporting file-sharing, eDiscovery, and compliance, and expanding its live video capabilities to include professional cameras.

Facebook Stories and Direct are rolling out already, nevertheless it may take some time to achieve all customers worldwide.
